Background

The Research Topic “Recent Advances in Porous Semiconductor Materials –PSST 2026” is dedicated to presentations from the 14th edition of the Porous Semiconductors – Science and Technology Conference (PSST 2026), taking place on 19 - 24 April 2026 in Naples, Italy. Participants of the conference are welcome to submit full articles to this Frontiers in Nanoechnology Research Topic, led by Dr Luca De Stefano (ISASI CNR, Naples, Italy) and Dr Jan Macák (University of Pardubice, Czech Republic).

Advances in porous semiconductor materials have been driving progress across a wide range of areas, with key applications in medicine, sensing, nanophononics, quantum science and energy research. The field is shaped by a strong, collaborative research community that supports the exchange of ideas and the development of new approaches and technologies.

This Research Topic aims to capture these ongoing efforts by bringing together contributions that reflect both the breadth of the field and its continued evolution.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

• Nanofabrication of porous semiconductor materials, including electrochemical, chemical, and dry etching
• Surface chemistry and interface engineering
• Novel structures and micro/nanofabrication techniques
• Photonics and quantum science
• Nanoelectronics, optoelectronics, and microsystems based on porous and nanostructured materials
• Nanomedicine, imaging and therapy
• Energy generation, storage and conversion
• Nano-enabled sensors and biosensors
• Emerging materials and applications

Further information can be found at the conference website: https://psstconference.eu/.
